Hi everybody,
today I had issue with my notice of my portal. The drawing was not clear, not obvious...
I didn't understand if the switch was ON or OFF.
Look by yourself...
the problems : No #affordance
as you can see :
Buttons are normally less large than the space where they are...
Please think #AFFORDANCE
Have a look here .... ;-) it is not so easy
toggle-buttons-turn-on-vs-enable
and there
should-a-toggle-button-show-its-current-state-or-the-state-to-which-it-will-chan
And dont' forget : Don't make your users think (Don't make me think - Steve Krug)

Drawing of my notice |
the problems : No #affordance
- Impossible to see the button
- Impossible to know if dark-grey is the button
- No relation with the actual switch as you see by yourself...
Picture of my portal's system |
as you can see :
- No dark-grey zone, only white plastic
- The buttons have got specific shape with a little wave
so users have to think to understand the schema and to do it on their system. It means users can make mistake and finally break the system.
And why not drawing something like this...
My point of view |
